Field Colony

Studio space, artist residencies, and art courses are some of the offerings that Field Colony makes available to the creatives and businesspeople of Hoboken to serve as a hub for the arts in which they may work, study, and be inspired.

Their primary goal is to assist the local arts community by bringing individuals from many areas into a single location. This will make it possible for new partnerships to form, and it will also act as a destination that is open to new ideas and concepts.

Midway through December 2017, Field Colony had its very first art show, including the works of established and up-and-coming Hoboken artists. Field Colony continues to host exhibits for local New Jersey artists.

Classes

Suminagashi Marbling

“Sumi” means ink in Japanese, and “nagashi” means floating in Japanese. Together, these two words form the word “suminagashi.” The origins of the traditional method of marbling in Japan go back more than 800 years. This is a mono printing in which no two prints will be identical.

In Eastern traditions of paper marbling, colored inks are floated on a bath of clear water, and then the water is gently manipulated into delicate and serendipitous patterns. In Western traditions of paper marbling, on the other hand, there are many more ingredients, and the designs are standardized. After the paper has had time to soak up the colors on the water’s surface, it is removed gently.

Figure Drawing

As a method of discovery, figure drawing requires just the use of basic materials such as charcoal and pencil. Ideas develop as a result of using the “drawn” language, which includes specialized exercises that center on visual analysis and the abilities required for expressive forms, such as line, tone, mass, and illusionistic space, to represent the characteristics of the nude figure.

You rarely get a glimpse inside the creative process of other artists’ work. Being in a group setting allows you to see how others experiment and approach challenges from various angles. Observing multiple artistic techniques and applying different materials may teach you much about improving your work.

3D Modeling

This class is designed for participants with little to no experience with 3D Modeling or SketchUp but are interested in learning how this application may be used to develop their skills and would benefit from attending. You will learn the components of the workspace, how to generate and create 3D models quickly and accurately, as well as how to use and import furniture and lighting from the 3D warehouse, which is the world’s most extensive online library of 3D models, to finish their projects in a precise and timely manner.

Other 3D modeling programs like Rhino, Max, and Maya are mainly used to make complicated special effects like those in movies. SketchUp, on the other hand, has a more user-friendly interface that makes it easier to turn your ideas into a three-dimensional model that is easier to understand and recognize.

SketchUp class

Participants should have completed at least one SketchUp class, have some modeling or SketchUp experience, and be interested in learning how this software may be used to create interior spaces. Those who have taken at least one SketchUp class should attend this session.

During each class, they will focus on modeling a specific interior space, fitting it out with furniture and lighting, developing their materials, and making photo-realistic renderings using various extensions and plugins.

Saturday Painting

This painting class begins with an introduction to painting and then transitions into an interactive, open approach that invites and facilitates live conversation while still providing direction. In this class, acrylic paint is the primary medium utilized; however, I encourage the investigation and usage of various painting media so that students may experience the benefits of each kind of paint.

Students will learn the basics of painting, such as styles, methods, and ideas, emphasizing finding their creative voice. I will walk you through color theory, perspective, composition, figure-ground connections, and space. By studying artworks that serve as references, you will learn how to paint (figurative paintings you admire or photos you have taken). You can capture your surroundings and express yourself through painting with good practice and direction from an instructor.

Sunday Painting

This painting class begins with an introduction to painting and then transitions into an interactive open approach that promotes and gives live conversation and coaching. In this session, acrylic paint is the primary medium utilized; however, I encourage students to experiment with and use various painting materials to experience each offer’s benefits.

Students will gain an understanding of painting as a medium, as well as its methods and principles, with a focus placed on creative expression. I will walk you through the fundamentals of color theory, perspective, composition, figure-ground interactions, and spatial notions. You will learn to paint by looking at reference pictures (figurative paintings you admire or photos you have taken). The painting will allow you to better express yourself and capture your surroundings if you put in the effort to practice and have a teacher help you along the way.
